Dangie K-9 Services inc.

With the right dog for the job the sky is the limit.

How can our K9 training services benefit you?

I am located NE of Edmonton, Alberta. I offer training and consulting services anywhere in Alberta or wherever the need arises to anybody that needs to learn better communication for better control of their pet or working dog.

I have been a breeder in Alberta since 2001. I have been doing temperament testing since 2003. During this time I have helped many of my customers with training issues in person at my home and at theirs as well as via email and over the phone. There is no charge for basic obedience training services for customers who have purchased a pet and are willing to come to our home for training.

Temperament, intelligence, beauty and versatility...we have it all.

Because we do temperament testing we can help you choose from the puppies most suitable to your immediate situation and future plans. We base all of our tests on instinct because we know instinct never changes. Because of these tests we are able to determine to what degree a puppy is stimulated to chase, fight, runaway or play. Because we can see this we can prevent to some extent a bad situation. This means a virtually accident free and healthy family/pet relationship because the dog is placed in a situation that he was meant to be in.

Are you in need of a professional trainer who will work with you and your dog's behaviour?

Are you looking for a guard dog?

Do you want your puppy to grow up and be a stand up kind of dog. You want people to think they have something to worry about when they see him/her but you don't want your puppy to grow up into a walking lawsuit.

Temperament Testing

This testing should be done by all breeders before thay should be able to sell a dog. This type of testing is not meant only for working dogs it is for all dogs!

This is why we temperament test our puppies before they are put up for sale. We do this to see what they are really good at. By knowing what they are good at we can match them up with the situation that meets the individual dog's needs. This also means they will be easier to train because we are setting them up to succeed in what they are naturally good at. Our success would mean that the dog would live a happy life doing what he loves to do by instinct and the purchaser gets a tailor made dog to fulfill his needs. Whether it be to guard a business or to be a family companion you need to know if the job is what he will be naturally inclined to do.

By doing this we are reducing the unnecessary risk of injuries to peoples children and their other pets. It enhances and facilitates training because the puppy is born with the natural instinct and knowledge to do the job we have set him or her up to do.

How is it done?

By reading the specific instincts and reactions of the dog when subjected to different stimuli we can determine what each individual dog will instinctively be when he grows up. These tests are all based on instinct. These specific characteristics that are found in each dog will get stronger and keener as the dog develops in age and training but will never change.

I first heard aout temperament testing in 2001 from a K9 RCMP officer. He got me hooked on the science and I have been studying dog temperaments ever since. I am proud to say that to my knowledge I have not failed a dog or customer yet.

If you want a good dog, you have to know what you want him to be to you. ie: Lap dog, guard dog, jogging companion, obsessive frisby nut etc... Then you have to make sure that he will fit your lifestyle. Temperament testing is the most accurate way to do this.

I believe that if we had more breeders doing temperament testing the humane society would likely have less dogs to euthanize every year.

How do you know what a good trainer is?

Training should be an enjoyable experience for both the dog and handler. Too many times I have people coming to me with problems and questions about the training they have been provided with.

Some breeders/trainers may say some of the following:

  • Chasing and killing your farm animals all depends on training or the breed
  • If you don't want a dog to bite, give it chew toys.
  • Rub his nose in his pee or poop if it had an accident.
  • Never go near the dog when it is eating.
  • Hit or kick the dog when it jump up on you.

If you have been told or taught any of the above, then you were mislead and your breeder/trainer let you and your dog down.

I can tell you from my experience that dogs do have certain traits that are breed related but that is not to say that they are all the same. Then again I can tell you that training will not take away the traits but depending on the training methods you will use with your dog, you will have a greater understanding of those traits and better control of them.

To not give adequate training to your puppy is a great lack of respect to the dog. You can't expect him to know what is expected of him and he will not come pre-configured to your specifications. Training is a way of life, not just a 10 hour thing that you can forget about after it's done.

One very important thing everyone must acknowledge about training, is that most of those nasty habits your dog has, are instinctual. Even if you train your little villain to the hilt, those nasties will just pop right back into place the minute you turn your back or leave the room. On the other hand if you encourage them when you are there to get a result you can live wth, your villain will actually become a prize doing what he wants the way you want.

What about Training or Behavioral issues?

You want to train your puppy but you don't know where to start.

You are not sure what training methods are good for your puppy's temperament.

You bought a new puppy from a breeder who doesn't do temperment testing and he is now a young adult that keeps ripping your kids' clothes.

This is your first puppy and you don't know how to house train it.

I have specialized in puppy and dog placement, training, behaviour counselling and breeding of dogs and horses for many years. I do this because it is a passion for me and I am good at it because it is the specfic job I believe I was meant to excel at.
